John Fitch was born at Woodstock, Illinois in 1848. He was a veteran of the Civil War. Fitch died in Sherwood in 1925 at the age of 77 years. He served in Col. Winslows troops and marched with Sherman to the sea. Fitch came to Sherwood in 1890. He was a brother of Ex-Postmaster Fitch.
