Birth son of David Searles and Mira (Stuart) Searles. After the death of his father, John C. McConnell married Mira Searles when David was quite young and appears to have adopted him since he uses the name McConnell as a last name and Searles as his middle name.  A family narrative says he died at 41, which would make his birth year 1846, but 42 is what the cemetery ledger says.
