Maxine Frances Phillips, 94, passed away, September 30, 2013, in Wilsonville, Oregon.
She was born in Eagle Point, Jackson County, Oregon February 21, 1919 to Carl W. and Lola (Chambers) Jackson.  Her sisters Talliene and Beverly and her brother Burke preceded her in death.
In 1937 she married Emmett M. Gott and they lived in Butte Falls, Jackson Co., OR.  Three daughters were born to this union: Katherine, Winifred, and Karen.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1944.   Her second marriage to Lloyd B. Rivett also ended in divorce.  Danny and Steve Rivett were born to this union.   She married A. W. “Bud” Phillips October 26, 1973 in Vancouver, Washington.  They lived in Tigard and moved to Sherwood in the mid 1980’s.  She and Bud were members of The American Legion Sherwood Post and the Sherwood Elks for many years.  Bud passed away April 11, 2000; and her son, Danny, and daughter, Winifred, have preceded her in death.
Maxine worked in the restaurant industry for many years and retired in 1982.  She was a terrific seamstress and a great cook.  She enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds, (hummingbirds, especially), and playing the piano.  She grew up with music being an important part of her life – her father was a musician in a John Philip Sousa band for the Navy in WW I.  Maxine played the piano at church and community events in the Butte Falls area.  In later years she collected and played André Rieu CD’s for pleasure.  She enjoyed her cup of coffee every morning working the Oregonian newspaper crossword puzzle.
Maxine was very proud of her independence but health issues convinced her she needed to move to assisted living.  She moved to The Springs in Wilsonville  in August 2013 and had a wonderful view of the lovely courtyard outside her living room and bedroom windows.  After a fall at night her health declined quickly and it was determined she would be provided hospice care.  The Springs at Wilsonville and Serenity Hospice were so caring, kind, and helpful throughout the short time she was there.
Surviving and left to honor her life are her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Amerilyn Rivett; grandchildren, Aaron Rivett, and Harmony (Rivett) Carson and family; Jeff and Melody Whitcher and family; Katherine (Gott) Wilkinson and family; Karen (Gott) Yamamoto and family; Lowell and Deanna Stark and family; and Chuck and Marlene Banks and family.
Her Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 3, at 11:00 a.m. in Attrell’s Sherwood Funeral Chapel, Sherwood, with Pastor Ken Vanden Hoek officiating.  Private family committal, with vault interment, follows at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sherwood.  A reception follows at noon at the Sherwood Elks Lodge.  Arrangements are in the care of Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home.
